What our Community Garden is about...
Plots are open for anyone in our community.
Gardeners put down a $10 (small plot) or $20 (large plot) deposit to reserve one. Deposits will be returned at the end of summer if plots are maintained all summer and cleaned up at the end of the season. All gardeners are required to attend an orientation meeting and follow all gardening guidelines.
Small plots are 4'x10' and large plots are double that size, 4'x20'. All newcomers will be given a small plot their first year unless extra space is available. A small plot will be able to grow approximately 4 tomato plants, 12 potato plants, 8 kale, or 2 zucchini, and will require about 1-2 hours of weeding and maintenance each week during the hottest weeks of the summer. Gardeners are expected to stop by their plots at least once a week to maintain them from mid-May through mid-October. Please ensure that you will have ample time and energy to care for your plot.
All produce grown in a gardener's plot is theirs to use as they'd like. Take it home, share some with friends, or leave some on the garden stand out front to share with others in the community.
WHAT IS PROVIDED:
- Labeled plot with healthy soil, ready for use by mid-May
- Regular watering from in-ground sprinklers
- Fencing around the entire garden to protect from deer and rabbits
- Access to gardening tools and equipment for use in a locked shed
- Optional gardening gatherings and weeding parties throughout the summer
- Compost bins for weeds and scraps and a garden cart for sharing excess produce
- Advice on what grows well here and when/how to plant it, and opportunities to share your gardening skills
- A garden Facebook group for asking questions and staying in touch with fellow gardeners
WHAT IS EXPECTED:
- Help make the community garden a positive experience for all gardeners by assisting with garden jobs, sharing knowledge and produce when possible, and being a friendly and considerate garden neighbor.
- Please read the garden guidelines below before registering online for a plot. Once you are registered, we will send you instructions on how to turn in your deposit and set up an orientation meeting. Please email Laura at [email protected] if you have any questions.
