CALVARY'S VISION STATEMENT:
LOVING GOD. BECOMING DISCIPLES. CHOOSING COMMUNITY.
LOving God
God Gathers Us: Calvary purposefully glorifies God and proclaims that God’s great love is worthy of bringing our whole selves into a diverse worshiping community. God Sends Us: Calvary will entrust our lives to God, celebrate the abundance of God, and reflect God’s love into the world. Becoming Disciples
God Gathers Us: God’s love invites us into a lifelong journey of humble learning and engagement with scripture. We open ourselves to be transformed by the Spirit, so that our lives look more and more like Christ’s. God Sends Us: We will continue to learn and grow as God’s love sends us into our communities to work for the wholeness of the Kingdom of God. Choosing Community
God Gathers Us: God’s love gathers diverse people to come together in the unity of the Spirit to care for one another, as Jesus modeled for his disciples. (Philippians 2. John 14.) God Sends Us: Calvary will work as the hands and feet of Christ, serving others in a way that empowers and recognizes the dignity and potential of our neighbors, both local and global, and seeks their flourishing. CHOOSING COMMUNITY COVENANTIn 2019, the leadership of Calvary committed to what we call our "Choosing Community Covenant."
STATEMENT OF INCLUSIONIn November 2023, the Consistory of Calvary voted and approved the following statement:
Calvary on 8th recognizes the dignity, worth, and gifts of each person as created in the image of God. We welcome into the full life of the church all people who desire to express their devotion to Jesus Christ through the fellowship and ministry of Calvary on 8th, as we seek to Love God, Become Disciples, and Choose Community. We do this together regardless of gender, race, ethnicity, physical or mental ability, marital status, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, economic condition, or life experiences. We recognize among us differences in theology and biblical interpretation and, as outlined in the Choosing Community Covenant, commit to accept, to respect, and to love one another along our faith journeys. As God loves us, so let us love one another. |
